Remembering 9-11 10 years ago
Music, prayer, speakers and local first responders are part of the ceremony held Sunday night at West Tawakoni City Park to remember the Sept. 10, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States. Participants walked behind local firefighters and police officers, holding candles, led by a bagpiper to the Veterans Memorial section of the park. The Hunt County Honor Guard presented the colors and honored the Armed Forces. Karen Lockhart, chairwoman of the Park Planning Committee, welcomed those attending, introduced the speakers and read sentiments from former President George W. Bush, prepared by him for the West Tawakoni event. State Rep. Dan Flynn and Fort Hood Military Police Chief David W. Ross were speakers while the crowd sat on the hillside with the full moon providing the only light.
